Music recording and broadcasting industry representatives testified at a hearing on performed music licensing laws. They talked about the patchwork of licensing laws outdated by the myriad ways people now listen to music, including the Internet. Witnesses included executives from Pandora, SiriusXM, the National Association of Broadcasters, the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP), and singer-songwriter Roseanne Cash.

This hearing was part of broader efforts by the House Judiciary Committee to update copyright law.

In 1938, Bill Monroe and Cleo Davis pulled a camper trailer from Atlanta to Asheville to take over the 15 minute radio show called ‘Mountain Music Time’ at WWNC in the Flat Iron Building in Downtown Asheville. He then named the group ‘Bill Monroe and The Blue Grass Boys’, coining the term “Bluegrass” as his distinct new music style that was ready to set the world on fire!
